“We are a small group of people interested in grassroots neighborhood philanthropy. What we do is simple: we recycle money. We accept donations from people in our community and make seed money grants to individuals and organizations that are inspired to fill a local need. Many of them are centered on issues of social justice and sustainability.”

Toni Winter works four days a week as an RN and is a full-time graduate student on her way to becoming a Clinical Nurse Leader. She is particularly interested in BFJ projects that support vulnerable populations, like children, immigrants, and the elderly, as well as international understanding.

Nan Fuchs is busy writing her monthly national newsletter, Women’s Health Letter. She volunteers at Amitabha Medical Center, helping to develop free monthly educational health talks for the community the second Tuesday of each month. She’s interested in projects with a strong focus and leadership.

Louise Mccoy is owner-operator of Mccoy’s Cookware on 4th Street in Santa Rosa.In previous lives, she has worked in social services, university administration, and international development. She has a particular interest in the quality of life of migrant laborers.

Sharon Bard fell in love with Bread for the Journey ten years ago, co-produced a CD of stories about generosity, and then joined the Sonoma County Board. In 2008 she was asked to serve on the national Board. A writer who recently created a scholarship program for students interested in sustainability, she loves traveling, yoga, cycling, composting and hot springs.

Greg Young is an entrepreneur philanthropist. Those are big words for a guy who became successful marching to the beat of his own drum. Greg came to us with an offer to do anything he could to help BFJ and projects he connects with. We put him in touch with the Ceres Project and Greg dug in.  He helped boost them to another level and continues to be involved with them, and is now looking for another project to support.
