Bread for the Journey® is fueled by the power of human connection. In addition to giving of their time, talent and skill, people come to offer their natural courage, wisdom, hope, enthusiasm, love, clarity, patience, and compassion. Many volunteers come to us, and stay with us, because they feel we are helping to restore lost cultural patterns of care and connection to our neighbors. We restore a “barn-raising” mentality, in which people in a community meet one another as donors, grantees, chapter members and other volunteers, all contributing some essential piece to the betterment of the world they know. All can join as collaborators in creating new, fresh ways of living in community, bringing their abundant, hidden gifts to the table and, working together, can dream, liberate, and build a stronger more sustainable world for themselves and their children.
